چکیده

Initiation of apoptosis, or programmed cell death, is an important issue in cancer treatment as cancer cells frequently have acquired the ability to block apoptosis and thus are more resistant to chemotherapeutic drugs. Demonstrated in this publication is the inactivation (killing) of human Melanoma skin cancer cell lines, in vitro, by Floating Electrode Dielectric Barrier Discharge (FE-DBD) plasma. Not only are these cells shown to be killed immediately by high doses of plasma treatment, but low doses are shown to promote apoptotic behavior as detected by TUNEL staining and subsequent flow cytometry. It is shown that plasma acts on the cells directly and not by ‘‘poisoning’’ the solution surrounding the cells, even through a layer of such solution. Potential mechanisms of interaction of plasma with cells are discussed and further steps are proposed to develop an understanding of such systems.

پالایش بخارات کلروفرم با استفاده از راکتور پلاسمای غیر حرارتی جدید (سال 1394)

Background and aims: One of the innovative technologies for air pollution control is non-thermal plasma. The dielectric barrier discharge reactor is one of the reactors that applied in non thermal plasma technology for air polluation control. In dielectric barrier discharge reactor, the distance between the electrodes for electric discharge is low and led to increasing space velocity of the pol...

Blood Coagulation and Living Tissue Sterilization by Floating-Electrode Dielectric Barrier Discharge in Air

Thermal plasma discharges have been widely used in the past for treatment of living human and animal tissue. However, extensive thermal damage and tissue desiccation occurs due to extreme temperatures. Some solutions have been offered where the temperature is lowered by short current pulses, addition of noble gases, or significant decrease in the size of treatment electrodes. We propose a metho...

A Numerical Study of the Sour Gas Reforming in a Dielectric Barrier Discharge Reactor

In this paper, using a one-dimensional simulation model, the reforming process of sour gas, i.e. CH4, CO2, and H2S, to the various charged particles and syngas in a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) reactor is studied. An electric field is applied across the reactor radius, and thus a non-thermal plasma discharge is formed within the reactor. Based on the space...

Surface Decontamination by Dielectric Barrier Discharge Plasma

Background: Dielectric barrier discharge (DBD), a source of non-thermal plasma, is used in surface decontamination. Objective: To study the effect of DBD plasma treatment, we evaluated the effect of plasma exposure time on inactivation of Bacillus subtilis. Results: Applying the DBD plasma to the culture of B. subtilis caused complete sterilization of the surface without any thermal effects. In...

Bluff Body Flow Separation Control using Surface Dielectric Barrier Discharges

Surface dielectric barrier discharges (DBDs) are used to delay flow separation behind a bluff body in atmospheric pressure air. The bluff body is made by connecting a flat plate to a half cylinder tangentially as a round-cornered trailing edge. Four DBD plasma actuators are attached along the surface of the half cylinder. Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) is utilized for studying the velocity fi...
